Two Sheris, One Quilt Shop

Every family seems to have one quilt that’s too precious for everyday use and too beloved to stay folded in a closet. It comes out for sick days and holiday naps. In Atoka, Sew Squared helps local quilters make the next one. The name is a family pun with a little math behind it. Owner Sheri Hudson and her mother-in-law, Sherry, share the same name with two different spellings. Friends started calling them “the Sherrys,” so Two Sheris became S2. Then S2 became Sew Squared, and a tiny number 2 still hides in the logo.

Together, the pair brings more than 60 years of quilting experience to this full-service quilt shop. Sheri leads most classes, covering everything from basic machine use to color placement and quilt math. Her favorite proof came at the shop’s first class in 2022. An 80-something student whispered that she’d only come to keep a friend company, since she’d been quilting for 45 years. By the end, she admitted she’d learned more in 15 minutes than in all those decades. The shelves hold quilters cotton from top fabric brands, plus thread and notions. Patterns and rulers round out the quilting tools, and several patterns are Sheri’s Originals designs. Once a top is pieced, the longarm service adds a professional finish. Limited embroidery services handle details like quilt labels and monogramming.

Classes aren’t the only reason locals pull up a chair. Open sew days like First Friday Sit & Sew invite community sewists to bring a friend and an unfinished project. The independent shop is also locally owned and veteran owned, thanks to Sheri’s years in the Navy. Her outlook fits the craft perfectly: “When life throws you curves, square them up.” Now the Hudson family is celebrating their 2026 Best of Tennessee Award.
