Run for the Roses, Stay for the Party!

Run for the Roses, Stay for the Party!

Saddle up, pour yourself a mint julep, and lock in your bets: the Kentucky Derby is just around the corner! This is the kind of weekend that doesn’t stay contained to Churchill Downs. It spills into bars, rooftops, event spaces, and anywhere with a screen and a crowd ready to commit to the moment.

Whether you’re dressing in your Derby best or keeping it casual with a good seat at the bar, there are plenty of places across Tennessee to catch the action. The best part is there’s no single way to do it. You can go all out at a ticketed event with a packed schedule, or keep things simple and still feel like you’re part of something bigger. Either way, Derby Day has a way of pulling people in and keeping them there, right up until the final stretch.

Where to Post Up Before Post Time

On race day, Downtown Nashville is the heart of the action. Acme Feed & Seed is hosting a free Kentucky Derby Watch Party from 5 to 7 PM. Expect DJs, mint juleps, and a crowd that shows up early to claim space before the broadcast locks everyone in. It’s first come, first served, which means timing matters. Book your group reservation here

If you’re looking for a full day of festivities, head to Von Elrod’s Beer Hall & Kitchen. Their Annual Talk Derby to Me Party runs from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with themed drinks, food specials, and a crowd that treats the hat contest like a main event.

For those looking to celebrate and support a good cause, head to Get Down & Derby! Hosted by the Down Syndrome Association of Memphis & the Mid-South (DSAM), you’ll find photo ops, a hat parade, a silent auction, and plenty of Derby flair, all benefiting DSAM’s mission.

And in Jackson, Madison Downs Venue is making a full afternoon out of it. Their Derby Viewing Party kicks off at 2 PM with a raffle, door prizes, themed decor, cocktails, and more. Grab your tickets ahead of time here. PS: Don’t forget to dress up!

Derby Day isn’t something you half-show up for. You’re either in it early with a spot, a drink, and a clear view, or you’re stuck watching over someone’s shoulder wishing you’d planned better. The hats, the cocktails, the noise, the last-minute bets…it all builds to two minutes that hit fast and disappear even faster. Pick your place, get there early, and make it count when the gates fly open!
