For Michelle Shumate, travel has always been a part of life. Growing up, her family explored the United States, Mexico, and Canada in their camper, creating memories that sparked a lifelong love of travel. As an adult, she became the person friends and family turned to for help planning vacations. In 2016, she turned that passion into a career and joined Fairy Godmother Travel.
Today, Michelle is a Certified Travel Counselor and Certified Cruise Counselor with more than 10 years of experience helping clients plan vacations around the world. From family vacations and cruises to all-inclusive resorts, honeymoons, and European adventures, she enjoys helping travelers find the right experience for their interests, travel style, and budget.
What Michelle loves most about being a travel advisor is getting to know her clients. She believes vacation planning should be exciting, not overwhelming, and takes pride in handling the details so her clients can focus on enjoying their time together. Her personalized planning services, expert guidance, and support before, during, and after travel are provided at no additional cost to her clients.
Being named a 2026 Best of Tennessee Regional Award winner is especially meaningful to Michelle because of the relationships she has built throughout her career. Many of her clients return year after year, and their referrals to friends and family are among the greatest compliments she receives.
When she's not planning vacations, Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and homeschooling her three children. She still approaches every vacation she plans with the same excitement that first inspired her love of travel.
