Frosting That Skips the Cake

Frosting That Skips the Cake

Some of the best souvenirs from a mountain weekend never make it onto a shelf. They end up in the shower instead, where one familiar scent can bring the whole trip rushing back on an ordinary Tuesday morning. Bearfoot in Blue Ridge Soap Company has built its entire business around that happy little time machine. Founder Michelle Bolhuis learned the art of soapmaking in 2018 from her mentor Molly Elmore. Today her family-run shop sits on Ocoee Street in Copperhill, so close to the Georgia line that a short stroll practically counts as interstate travel. Inside, the team makes small-batch soaps and scrubs alongside candles and lotions.

The showstopper is Shower Frosting®. The whipped scrub looks so much like cupcake topping that the team happily reminds customers it belongs in the shower, not on dessert. Its 3-in-1 formula scrubs and smooths while it hydrates, so the lotion bottle can stay in the cabinet. Every scent also carries a meaningful number. Each one honors someone Michelle treasures and is based mostly on that person’s birthday. Picking #527 Georgia Peach means picking up a piece of her story. The frosting has even earned a place in Southern Living Stores. It’s a fitting reward for a shop whose motto is “Life is short…use the good soap!”

That big heart carries right into the Copperhill storefront. The shop’s Cub Corner gives young visitors an art space of their own while the grown-ups sniff their way along the shelves. At least 1% of every purchase goes to local charities in need. The team describes its home as “Where Georgia meets Tennessee…and where the ordinary becomes extraordinary.” Locals and visitors alike have made Bearfoot a regular stop, and now the crew is celebrating their 2026 Best of Tennessee Award.
