My name is Matthew Moore, founder and owner of Hellbender Outfitters. I am a proud United States Marine Corps combat veteran, having served two tours in Afghanistan. My time in the military instilled in me a deep sense of resilience, discipline, and commitment to excellence—values that I carry into every aspect of my life and business.

After returning home, I found peace and purpose in the outdoors. Fishing Appalachian rivers, climbing sandstone bluffs, and skiing the mountains reminded me that the wilderness isn’t just a place to explore—it’s a place to heal, to push limits, and to build community. From that passion, Hellbender Outfitters was born.

Founded in the heart of East Tennessee, Hellbender Outfitters is more than just an outdoor gear shop—it’s a community hub for adventurers of all kinds. Inspired by the rare and resilient Hellbender salamander that calls these mountains home, our name represents toughness, adaptability, and respect for wild places.
