Small Biz, Big Prep Power!

Small Biz, Big Prep Power!

If you own a small business in Tennessee, chances are you’ve mastered the art of juggling; inventory, invoices, maybe even an espresso in one hand and a social media post in the other. But here’s one thing many business owners skip until it’s too late: preparing for the unexpected. Enter ReadyTN Business, the state’s new free online program that helps you get your ducks in a row before disaster strikes.

The Calm Before the Storm

Launched by the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA),  ReadyTN Business is like having a personal prep coach minus the whistle and push-ups. The four-week course walks you through the basics of business continuity planning, disaster readiness, and what to do when the lights literally go out. Each week takes about an hour, meaning you can fit it in between client calls or your third cup of coffee.

Small businesses stand to gain the most here. Unlike big corporations with entire risk management teams, local shops and startups often have…well, just themselves. ReadyTN keeps it simple and practical, focusing on what matters most when things go sideways:

  • Protecting important documents – so your business plan doesn’t wash away with the next storm.
  • Building an emergency response plan – because “winging it” is not a strategy.
  • Keeping communication open – making sure your team, customers, and suppliers know what’s up when chaos hits.

Peace of Mind (and a Certificate, Too)

At the end of the course, participants receive a completion certificate and even a letter for their insurance company: proof that you’re not just running a business, but a prepared one. It’s the kind of small but mighty effort that can make the difference between bouncing back or closing up shop.

In a state where weather can turn faster than a fiddle tune, a little preparation goes a long way. So if you’re a Tennessee business owner, consider this your sign: spend four hours now, save yourself a headache later!
